Dormans Youth Arts Centre – Preparing for Planning
We are preparing a planning application for the redevelopment of Dormans Youth Arts Centre in Gossops Green, Crawley. Originally built in 1965, the centre has long been a cornerstone for local young people, offering creative, social, and recreational programmes.
The proposal seeks to revitalise and expand the existing building, replacing a disused north wing with a two-storey extension housing a new dance studio, music recording suites, and a multi-use space with views over Dormans Park. The redesign also includes a new entrance, improved art and performance spaces, and enhanced accessibility through ramps, lift access, and a Changing Places facility.
Sustainability is at the core of the scheme, with solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and improved insulation and glazing to boost energy efficiency. The design retains the building’s distinctive mid-century character while introducing contemporary materials and detailing to create a welcoming, vibrant community hub.
Once complete, the project will expand the centre’s capacity, support more youth and community activities, and secure Dormans as a sustainable, inclusive space for generations to come. We will keep you updated !
